 Carpet color
What is the right carpet color for the -68 fastback with Nugget gold (2Y) interior?
It also seams to be a problem finding the headliner in Nugget gold.

Near as I have been able to tell, the dash pad and carpet in these should be tobacco. I have never seen an original where these were not discolored, so this is really more of a guess.
I'm pretty sure TMI parchment moonskin #837 would look very good with nugget gold.

My 68 1/2 is Nugget gold. I went through some time taking research to try and come up with the info you need. I spent about an hour on the phone with mister f going over possibilities etc, plus what I have seen on other cars and what I removed from mine. It is hard to figure exactly. And yes, materials in Nugget Gold are hard to find. I was able to find a headliner. I MAY be able to get you one, interested? There are some pieces not available. I came to the conclusion that mine had a black dash and black carpet. When I removed the pieces, they were brown looking, but it had been sitting in a field for many many years, open to the elements. My belts were black, would they have put black belts on a dark brown carpet? So I went for a black dash and black carpet. The rest of the interior is Nugget Gold pieces. When I discussed this with mister f, we took into account when the car was built also.

I also think that the dash should be black. Today the carpet is wath I would call aqua, and to me it does't look right.
My belts and console are dlx nugget gold.
I would be interested in a headliner in nugget gold.

If only for background info, would you mind providing the car's door tag codes?

Well, an aqua carpet is not even close, you must be looking at fade. Frankly I don't think I'd like a black pad and carpet with a nugget interior and gold exterior, unless of course you are a Saints fan. Tobacco pad and carpet, on the other hand, would be awesome.
If you are convinced your carpet and/or pad are original, check portions of them which do not see the light of day. Careful, though, if they were replaced in the 70's or 80's, almost certainly black was all they could find, and they will still look quite old.

The carpet look like aqua under the console. I don't think black dash pad would be wrong, bear in mind the black camera case under the pad,
also the upper quarter panel and other trim panels in the rear is black.
But the thing is. I would like to restore this car as close as posible to its orginal look.

The upper and lower side panels in the rear are not the same color? If I read right, the lower panels are gold and the uppers are black? Sounds weird to me, as does the aqua carpet.

I still like the nugget/tobacco idea:

That's right upper panels black lower gold. I have pictures but I don't know how to post them here.

Here are a couple shots. The first pic is obviously a restored car and therefore possibly not correct. I think the brown carpet does not look good even though I previously thought it would.
This second photo is an original car. You can see the faded black capet and black dash pad.

I have to admit I would have picked a slightly darker shade of brown, but I still like it better than black. Of course, I have had a lot of exposure to 65's with the palomino interior, and they definitely had brown accessories.
The most off-putting thing about that brown carpet is the revolting steering wheel, although I would have done a brown dash pad as well. A black pad and brown carpet is just not happening for me.

but the bottom line here is that you see what Ford did originally, black.
